Puzzle Frustration
I come from a family that likes puzzles. Some of us even love them. Dad has always done crossword puzzles, his mother does crosswords and cryptoquotes. Mom likes jigsaws and those annoying puzzles that have many variations but only one that actually solves the puzzle.
We bought three of those while we were out shopping on Saturday. One of them had 8 cards with multi-coloured polka dots and empty holes that had to be stacked so it looked like all the dots were the same colour. Unfortunately I got the simplest version quickly and mom refuses to go near it now. Another has 4 cards you stack to make continuous pathways in a given colour - no one has gotten that yet.
The one that is giving her (and therefore dad and I) the most frustration is a set of 9 squares that supposedly go together. Right. It’s not happening. Which of course frustrates mom, and has her trying it for hours muttering under her breath. On the other hand she’s been much more positive in the rest of her life.
I wonder if the reason this family likes these impossible puzzles is that it gives us a way to vent frustration on something that we know won’t hurt anyone else
Of course if I get the answer first (because I too am addicted to these puzzles) - then I would write it down, hide it, and try not to brag, and mom would attack the puzzle in order to vent her frustration at me!
