The Day That Didn’t Happen

Published by cepha_marie at 9:10 pm under Household Living Edit This

Today just didn’t happen.  I set the alarm for 7 am so that I could shower and do all the stuff I needed to do before my grandparents arrived ‘mid-morning’.  I then rushed out of bed at 8 because 7 just wasn’t going to happen.  I also skipped the shower, because I didn’t think I had time to do that and everything else before they arrived.

I was going to have a nice peaceful cup of coffee and some breakfast before starting my chores.  Nope.  That didn’t happen.  I put on the coffee pot, put the dog out, got dressed, braided my hair and put in a band to keep my bangs back (seriously greasy hair day here), put my waffles in the toaster, let the dog in, put the dishes in the dishwasher, counted clean coffee cups to make sure we had enough, vacuumed the floor, cleaned the cat boxes, put the waffles to toast again (they’d gone cold) sat down with my waffles and coffee, hopped up to make the bed because I saw my cat was off of it, shoved the other cat off the bed, then finally sat down and had my breakfast.

Then I had another cup of coffee because no one had arrived yet.

Then I kept going to the bathroom and panicking that they’d choose that moment to arrive when I was ‘inconvenienced’ and couldn’t open the door.

Then it became lunch time and I just kindof nibbled quickly on things because I didn’t want to be eating when they arrived because they are on special diets and I didn’t have anything to offer them.

Finally I got exhausted (probably from leaping up each time I heard a car - even though I know if it was a car in our driveway the dog would go crazy) and went to my room for a nap, where I very carefully didn’t disturb the bed that was made up for Grampy’s nap, but instead used a spare blanket to cover me.  A blanket I had taken that morning from the cupboard to make the room look nicer.  My cats were of course back on the bed by this time, and we took our nap together.

We were finally woken up by a barking dog!!  Which was followed by Mom’s voice.  Turns out that there weren’t going to be any grandparents today, but wow, had I ever been ready for them.  I did have a nice time lying on my bed with mom though (who appreciated the room I’d cleaned for my grandparents) and watching the dog go berzerk with happiness that she was home.

So yes, its now evening and I feel as if the day I had planned didn’t happen.  I did manage to make it past the writer’s block on my story at one point - so I guess there was a highlight to the day (that and the fact that my room is  clean).
